Our People

Mrs. Theodosia Salome Karkada was born in Mangalore, India. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah and Lilly Bangera. She was married to Late Mr. John Theodore Karkada who was an officer in the Indian Army. Mrs. Karkada was a teacher by profession in Mangalore for 33 years. They were happily married for 49 years. God blessed her with four children, eight grand children, and five great-grand children.

As a teacher, she enjoyed reading as a hobby. Her favorite leisure reading included the Bible and the magazines 'Jeeva Jala' and 'Prarthisu Kannada Monthly, which she faithfully read on a daily basis. Amma's favorite food was chicken curry and neer (paper thin) dosa.

"Amma" as she was lovingly called by all, came to USA in 1997. During her 1st visit, she professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and obeyed the Lord in the waters of Baptism at Believers Assembly in Chicago. She returned back to India later in the year and lived in her home town, Mangalore. She was an active member of Sushanthi Church in India where her late husband served as a Choir Director. Her love of music was instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren since childhood.

In 2007, she returned to USA and lived in Chicago with her children. She was a faithful member of New Life Bible Chapel. Her children and church family were greatly blessed by her prayer life.

We all miss and love her. We praise the Lord that she is with Him, and eagerly look forward to the day when we all shall meet Amma again.
